What is meant by the term “single-ply roofing”?
Per SPRI (Single Ply Roofing Industry), “the class of commercial roofing membranes commonly described as “single-ply” are flexible sheets of compounded synthetic materials that are manufactured in a factory to strict quality control requirements.
Single ply roof systems provide strength, flexibility, and long-lasting durability. The inherent advantages of pre-fabricated sheets are the consistency of the quality of the products that are manufactured, the versatility in their attachment methods, and therefore, their broader applicability.”

PVC

TPO
Thermoplastic Polyolefin single-ply roofing. This roofing material can be fully adhered, mechanically fastened, or ballasted.
TPO membranes are produce in one of three ways, calendering with lamination, extrusion with lamination, or extrusion-coating techniques. TPO sheets are a unique blend of polypropylene and ethylene propylene polymers and are typically reinforced with polyester.
EPDM
EPDM is a synthetic rubber roofing membrane also known as a thermoset membrane. Thermosets incorporate polymers that are chemically cross linked. One characteristic of true thermoset polymers is once they are cured, they only can be bonded to similar materials with adhesives.
EPDM is typically composed of two compounds, ethylene and propylene, that are derived from oil and natural gas. EPDM roof membranes can be installed fully adhered, mechanically attached or ballasted.
